Chatsworth House, home to the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, was the setting for ixia Flowers’ most recent exhibit. From the 5th to the 9th June 2019 the grounds of the spectacular house, passed down through 16 generations of the Cavendish family, were transformed by the RHS into a flower show fit for floral aristocracy. The 21 hectare site is a temporary home to floral designers, high quality lifestyle retailers and of course the finest growers and garden designers the country has to offer. A particular challenge of the site for the RHS show team is the River Derwent which runs through the show ground, spanning an impressive 60m at its widest point, and calling for a series of temporary bridges to be constructed in order for the public to enjoy easy access to both sides of the river. Along one side of the river ran the beautiful show gardens, and on the opposite bank hundreds of pink dahlia were planted to striking visual effect.
The Wedgwood Garden, designed by Jamie Butterworth, enjoyed huge success at the show earning an RHS Gold Medal, Best Show Garden and Best Construction as well as the People’s Choice Show Garden. The colour palette reflected Wedgwood’s Jasperware of rich sky blue, lush green and crimson, referenced in the stunning planting and enhanced by the simplicity of the design.
We slightly updated and improved our stand design in order to make best use of the lovely Chatsworth Lodges which house exhibitors, and we felt our design worked perfectly in this setting. We were delighted to receive our third RHS award of the season, and were once again very grateful for the wonderful response our stand received from the hardy flower show attendees, who did not let a little rain dampen their spirits!
As florists we also very much enjoyed the unique Floral Immersion exhibits which invited visitors to experience flowers in an entirely different way, and as ever the fantastic talks and demonstrations were a real highlight.
Next stop is RHS Harlow Carr, we have heard great things about the show which is just outside Harrogate, and we can’t wait to meet the team and visitors. As ever, keep an eye on our socials (@ixiaflowersuk) for updates on what we get up to between the shows!
